VOICE-Buffalo Public Meeting
Category: people's voice
HEY COMMUNITY! WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO COME:

“Our Vision, Our Voice, Our Community”

Who: VOICE-Buffalo

When: Sunday October 23, 2011 - 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM

Where: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209

Sunday, October 23rd, VOICE-Buffalo will hold its annual public meeting. Invested citizens will commit to building a better community. City, county and state politicians will hear the demand for extension of the “Millionaire’sTax”. The $5 Billion in revenue it generates will help to maintain a safety net for both seniors and children, and take a step toward ensuring that everyone has access to good jobs.

For over 15 years VOICE-Buffalo has mobilized a growing faith-based community of urban and suburban congregations that act on their values in the public arena, breaking down barriers that deeply divide our neighborhoods, city and region. Our work has led to many improvements in the quality of life for area residents, including the demolition of drug houses, a five-point rodent control program (done in collaboration with the City of Buffalo), the redirection of $500,000 in the Erie County budget toward safety patrols, and repair of the Buffalo section of the River Walk, to name a few.

At next Sunday’s Public Meeting we will discuss:
  • Holding National Fuel accountable for equitably and efficiently allocating money they receive from surcharges that create its Conservation Incentive Program;
  • The creation of a Transitional Living Center for at risk young males;
  • The development of an open, transparent and inclusive process for parents to participate in the selection and naming of the new Superintendent of the Buffalo Public Schools;

*Working with the Sister Karen Klimczak Center for Nonviolence to request investment in a street worker program;
  • We will also call upon our state and federal governments to provide more financial support to prevent an increase in NFTA Metro fares.

This event will take place simultaneously with the meeting of our sister organization NOAH in Niagara Falls.

I took the liberty of ripping off the wikipedia definition.

Faith is trust, hope and belief in the goodness, trustworthiness or reliability of a person, concept or entity. It is true that the religio-political organization of congregations have been the driving force for the many successful projects of PUSH but these groups recognize that they live, too, in a larger community.
It seems that you consider breaking down the barriers that divide us. Mayhaps you might consider breaking down your own barriers?

Too bad its a "faith-based community of urban and suburban congregations" and not simply a group of people who have collective goals to improve upon the area. The website :::link::: has all kinds of issue I agree with but by making it faith based, it makes me feel totally alienated and uninterested. Sad, considering one of your goals is "breaking down barriers that deeply divide our neighborhoods, city and region."
